I've been heading for my inline skating classes now every weekend, 2 hours per day. Will be completing level one this weekend! I just bought a new pair of skates plus new gears, damage done was $245. This is already quite cheap considering if you wanna get a branded pair, it can easily go in hundreds. Madness! But I'm still quite an amateur, so... just a pair of recreational ones will do ;)
Just got my hair done with red highlights at my trusty neighbourhood salon, and found a traditional indian threading place near my house! Will post up pictures soon..
Today is the most tiring day of my life. Its my first time heading to Pulau Ubin, and I just wanted to get it out of the way. Almost all my friends have been there, and I haven't yet. So since I have an off day, decided to go there for an R & R.
The ferry to Ubin is located at Changi jetty, per pax is SGD$2.50. Boats leave only once they have 12 passengers. Thank God the weather today was hot and sunny!
Rented my bike at $10 for a whole day, and paid a $5 deposit for bicycle locks as I wanted to go check out Chek Jawa. You had to park your bike outside and take a walk in. Did some reading up on other sites that it was advisable to request for a lock from the bike rental shop.
For those who tend to attract mosquitoes (like me), it is HIGHLY recommended to get insect repellent. I sprayed at least 2 times throughout the whole day and didn't get a bite! Also, travel light! I regretted bringing a sling bag... had a hard time cycling.
The route to and fro Chek Jawa is about 6km in total? Takes about 30 mins each time on bike and on foot. Sounds far, but if you're going in a group, the trip will seem shorter and more pleasurable. I'm not a very good cyclist, so at the steeper slopes I had to dismount and push my bike. I think all that mounting and dismounting was really a hindrance. The painful part was cycling on the rocky path where there were a lot of port holes and loose rocks around. At the end of the trip, my legs were like jelly already lah!
Anyway, there's really nothing much to see at Ubin. Good place for some soul searching, or if you'd like to get in touch with nature. Here's all the pictures I managed to take. Was perspiring so much and trying to cycle properly that I didn't really have the mood to connect with my artistic side.
On the way back in the bumboat it started to rain SUPER HEAVILY and everyone got drenched. We were hungry, tired and soaked. Gosh, we just needed to whack one good meal to get all that out of our system. The Coastal Settlement was really near Changi Jetty so we went there for brunch. It's a super pretty place (did I mention huge too?) that used to be some army barracks in the past. Seriously history buffs like me get turned on in places like this.
They serve extremely good food which I highly recommend!! My favourite was the fried portobello mushrooms with truffle oil mayo! Sunshine if you're reading this, they serve your smoked salmon with bagel and its super near your old place. Meet up with you & Van soon after you're much freezer for brunch ya!!
Oh, if you're a fan of bread & butter pudding like me, you must try theirs!
